At least 59 people, including an infant, children and several women, died after a wooden boat carrying migrants broke apart on rocks off the coast of Calabria, Italian. The death toll is provisional and likely to rise. Bad weather in that part of the Mediterranean sea is hampering search efforts by making the field of debris larger. The vessel left The Turkish city of Izmir three or four days ago, with 140 to 150 people on board. Around 80 people were saved from the water clinging on to pieces of the boat. The survivors were from Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The death toll in Turkey rose to 20,318, with 80,052 reported injuries, according to the country’s disaster agency. In Syria, the total number of those killed stands at 3,513, including 2,166 deaths in rebel-held areas in the northwest of the country, according to volunteer organization Syria Civil Defense, also known as the White Helmets.

Malawi finds wreckage of Vice President’s plane but no survivors
Rescue teams in Malawi have found the wreckage of a plane that was carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima but reported that there were no survivors. The remains of the military plane were located on Tuesday in a mountainous area in the north of the country, a day after it went missing in bad weather.
