President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held several meetings May 18 with the senior management of large Chinese companies engaged in the production, processing, and transportation of oil and gas, petrochemistry, energy, metallurgy, telecommunications, as well as financial and banking activities and the investment sector. According to CITIC Group Chair Zhu Hexin, the company signed five commercial documents worth over $1.6 billion with Kazakh partners to implement projects in the energy and petrochemical industries.

Ukraine F-16 fighter pilot training will start soon in Romania
The training of Ukrainian pilots on United States-made F-16 fighter jets is to begin in Romania in August. Officials have said on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Lithuania that Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced the Romania training programme on Tuesday alongside Dutch Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren and Denmark’s acting Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

More than 100 people are now confirmed dead after a boat ferrying hundreds of wedding guests overturned Monday in the river Niger around north-central Nigeria. According to the local police, the vessel was carrying around 250 passengers traveling back to Patigi in northcentral Kwara State after attending a wedding party in Gboti, in neighboring Niger State, when it sank early Monday, killing 106 on board.
