Thousands of homes in Haiti have been flooded following heavy rains over the weekend, leaving at least 42 people dead and 85 injured. According to a United Nations report, the intense rainfall caused several rivers throughout Haiti to overflow, which in turn sparked flash floods, flooding, rockslides and landslides.

Voting begins in India’s election
Millions of Indians began voting Friday in a six-week election that’s a referendum on Narendra Modi, the populist prime minister who has championed an assertive brand of Hindu nationalist politics and is seeking a rare third term as the country’s leader. People began queuing up at polling stations hours before they were allowed in at 7 a.m in the first 21 states to hold votes.

Tajik avalanche death toll rises to 20
On February 15, snow avalanches were reported in Tajikistan towns of Khorog, Roshtkala, Shugnan and Vanj located in the Gorno-Badakhshan region. Authorities reported 20 people were killed, including children. Volunteers rushed to assist rescue operations and managed to extract 12 survivors from snow-covered rubble. They also recovered bodies of persons suffocated and crushed to death.
