Flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rain in northern India have killed at least 41 people since the weekend. The state’s Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said thirty-one people have died in Himachal Pradesh, while a further 10 have died in neighboring Punjab. Sukhu said six helicopters had been deployed, and so far over 2,000 people have been evacuated.

Astronomers found the forbidden planet
Astronomers have found an unusually large planet orbiting a small star, located about 280 light-years from Earth. The unexpected size of the newly discovered world, called TOI 5205b, has led researchers to call it the forbidden planet. About the size of Jupiter, it was spotted by researchers using NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS.

18 bodies found in Greece wildfires
Wildfires on mainland Greece have been burning for four days now, with hundreds of responders attempting to douse the flames that broke out on Saturday. The Greek authorities have found 18 burned bodies as wildfires scorch a portion of northeastern mainland Greece.

Putin met Erdogan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian leader Vladimir Putin met on Monday in Russia’s southern coastal city of Sochi amid efforts to bring Moscow back into the critical Black Sea grain deal that was abandoned by Putin in July.
