Six people have died and more have been injured by wildfires sweeping the Hawaiian island of Maui. Thousands are without power or cell phone service due to fires that are being fuelled by winds from a nearby hurricane in the Pacific Ocean.

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his top military commanders have pledged to continue defending the besieged eastern city of Bakhmut in the face of intense Russian pressure. Moscow has targeted the embattled Donbas city with heavy shelling in a three-sided assault, but its forces have been unable to deliver a knockout blow which would enable them to seize it and finish off the resistance.

Israeli strike on northern Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp kills 22
At least 22 people, including women and children, have been killed in an Israeli attack on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza as Israeli forces press on with their ground assault in the area. As the death toll mounted on Saturday, the Israeli military issued evacuation orders for northern Gaza with instructions for residents near Jabalia to evacuate to the south of the enclave.
