The “Friends” cast has released a joint statement in the wake of Matthew Perry’s death. In the statement, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc paid tribute to their late co-star and friend, who died Saturday at the age of 54.

On May 27 1989, Cliff Richard released his one hundredth single, ‘The Best Of Me’, which became his 26th Top 3 UK hit. Cliff Richard selected the song for his milestone 100th single in 1989. It was certified silver by the BPI for sales over 200,000. Before releasing his 100th single, Richard invited 2,000 British fans to the London Palladium for a preview of six songs from his forthcoming album (which would be Stronger), to vote on which one they liked most as the possible 100th single. Ironically, “The Best of Me” came second to “Stronger Than That“. “The Best of Me” was composed in 1982 by Foster, Jeremy Lubbock and Richard Marx.

On March 16 1959, Doo-wop group The Platters scored their only UK No.1 hit with ‘Smoke Gets In Your Eyes’ (also a US No.1 hit). The song was a show tune written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for their 1933 musical Roberta. Paul Whiteman had the first hit recording of the song in 1934.

On January 29th 2021, Hilton Valentine, original guitarist and founding member of The Animals, died at the age of 77. In 1963 he was recruited to join The Animals alongside Chas Chandler, Alan Price and John Steel. He went on to play on classics like ‘Baby Let Me Take You Home’, ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’, ‘We Gotta Get Out of This Place’, ‘It’s My Life’ and ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’, and on the band’s landmark, trans-Atlantic number one cover of the traditional folk song ‘The House of the Rising Sun’.
