Rescue teams from around the world have travelled to both countries to help search for survivors. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said fatalities could reach as high as 20,000 in the coming days. Turkey’s disaster management agency said the country’s death toll passed 8,500 on Wednesday.

Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft crashes into Moon
Russia’s unmanned Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the Moon after spinning out of control. It was Russia’s first Moon mission in almost 50 years. The craft was due to be the first ever to land on the Moon’s south pole, but failed after encountering problems as it moved into its pre-landing orbit.

A Stolen 300-year-old painting returned to museum
A Baroque landscape paintings lost during World War II were returned to Germany on Thursday, October 20 2023. The artwork by 18th century Austrian artist Johann Franz Nepomuk Lauterer was hand over to a German museum.

Malawi has declared a state disaster of Cyclone Freddy
At least 99 people were confirmed dead on Monday after Cyclone Freddy slammed into southern Malawi. The country’s Commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs, Charles Kalemba said most of the deaths happened in Blantyre, Malawi’s commercial capital. Malawi’s government has declared a state of disaster in the southern region of the country. A Government press release said the country’s President, Lazarus Chakwera, has noted with grave concern the devastation that Cyclone Freddy is currently bringing to most districts in Malawi’s Southern region.
