Three people have died after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked a mountainous and remote part of China’s far western Xinjiang region early Tuesday. State broadcaster CCTV reported that a further five people were injured and 12,426 evacuated from affected areas.

Israel closes Gaza crossing as rockets are fired
Israel has closed the Kerem Shalom crossing with the Gaza Strip after 10 rockets were fired. Israeli media report that at least 10 people were injured in the attack by Hamas. The crossing is one of the few routes to get humanitarian aid into Gaza.

A Stolen 300-year-old painting returned to museum
A Baroque landscape paintings lost during World War II were returned to Germany on Thursday, October 20 2023. The artwork by 18th century Austrian artist Johann Franz Nepomuk Lauterer was hand over to a German museum.
