Six people have died and more have been injured by wildfires sweeping the Hawaiian island of Maui. Thousands are without power or cell phone service due to fires that are being fuelled by winds from a nearby hurricane in the Pacific Ocean.

A US fighter jet shot down the fourth unidentified object
President Joe Biden ordered another object – the fourth in total this month – to be downed. It could have interfered with commercial air traffic as it was travelling at 20,000ft. A military commander said it could be a gaseous type of balloon or some type of a propulsion system. The latest object – shot down over Lake Huron in Michigan near the Canadian border – has been described by defence officials as an unmanned octagonal structure with strings attached to it.

At least 97 civilians and 45 soldiers have been killed with a total of 942 injured since the clashes between the military and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) erupted at the weekend. Tensions have escalated since a power pact between the two sides crumbled and the resulting violence has seen members of the public caught in the crossfire, with the fighting spreading from the capital Khartoum to other parts of the country. Army chief and de facto leader, Abdel Fattah al Burhan said he was open to mediation as every war ends at the negotiation table even if the opponent is defeated.
