A gunman suspected of killing eight people in the city of Joliet, Illinois, has died after a confrontation with law enforcement officials. Police in Joliet said Romeo Nance, 23, is believed to have fatally shot himself after the confrontation near Natalia, Texas.

More than 11,000 people have died after earthquakes rocked Turkey and Syria
Rescue teams from around the world have travelled to both countries to help search for survivors. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said fatalities could reach as high as 20,000 in the coming days. Turkey’s disaster management agency said the country’s death toll passed 8,500 on Wednesday.

Suspect arrested after second mass shooting in Serbia
A man suspected of killing at least eight people in Serbia has been arrested following a massive manhunt, leaving the country reeling from its second mass shooting in just two days. The latest shooting happened late on Thursday night when an attacker opened fire in the village of Dubona, about 60 kilometers, about 37 miles southeast of the Serbian capital Belgrade.
