On February 15, snow avalanches were reported in Tajikistan towns of Khorog, Roshtkala, Shugnan and Vanj located in the Gorno-Badakhshan region. Authorities reported 20 people were killed, including children. Volunteers rushed to assist rescue operations and managed to extract 12 survivors from snow-covered rubble. They also recovered bodies of persons suffocated and crushed to death.

The resting place of the more than 800,000 people killed in the 1994 Rwanda genocide was among sites in three continents added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list as the United Nations cultural body ends a moratorium on considering memorial sites for human suffering.

Boat with refugees and migrants sinks off Greece
At least 78 people have died and more than 100 were rescued after a fishing boat carrying refugees and migrants capsized and sank off the southern coast of Greece. The Greek coastguard said on Wednesday the vessel sank in international waters, 47 nautical miles southwest southwest of Pylos, off the Peloponnese coast. About 100 people had been rescued.
